Agrecovery

Agrecovery is a nationwide rural voluntary product stewardship programme for the collection of triple rinsed agrichemical plastic containers.  The programme is for the agricluture, horticulture and forestry sectors. 

Horticentre Limited is proud to be a member of Agrecovery.  Our Horticentre branch at 221 Manukau Road, Pukekohe is the first container collection site in the Franklin area.  Our site is open Monday to Friday from 8.00am to 5.00pm.

Why Do We Need Agrecovery?

In New Zealand we currently dispose of an estimated 10 million 20-litre equivalent plastic agrichemical containers every year. Farmers and growers, national and international government, customers and buyers are all increasingly looking for more sustainable disposal solutions than burning, burying or dumping.

Agrecovery is needed because;

  • Farmers and growers are looking for practical solutions to manage farm wastes that are environmentally acceptable
  • International buyers are demanding more sustainable business practices with compliance programmes such as EUREPGAP
  • We need to ensure that New Zealand is working towards an international best practice and taking responsibility for its "on farm" packaging waste
  • New Zealand's environmental performance is being scrutinised

Participating in Agrecovery and recycling your agrichemical containers is a much more sustainable way of dealing with your rural plastic waste. Better for the environment and better than burning or dumping them on farm. On farm plastic waste is a persistent and growing problem for farmers and growers throughout New Zealand and we need a sustainable solution.
